First up, thanks for publishing and maintaining this site… plenty of great info.

My husband is a Stone descendant via William & Henrietta’s son, Glanville Dennis Stone (b. 1849 St Winnow, Cornwall, England, d. 1925 Whanganui, New Zealand), and he’s been researching the family since the 1990s. He entered all his findings into Family Tree Maker for years, and I’m painstakingly transferring all into an Ancestry tree (currently private, while cross-referencing everything) and further researching to fill in the gaps.

Glanville ended up in NZ via the US (with brother Edward Albert), then Australia (where his brothers John Billing, George & Frederick all died).

We’ve discovered some information about William and your ancestor, Charles, that you’ll be interested to know. Father William also traveled to the US, and we know more about Charles’ first US trip… all backed up by documentary evidence. Also, we’ve got a lot more to add about Henrietta Dennis, including her relationship with William’s second wife, Catherine Hancock.

Hi Steve, Bessie Stone from Llantrisant was my Great Grandmother. She lived in South Africa and passed away in Benoni, not Australia, in 1949. Karen Hassett is my cousin. My Grandfather was William Charles Golledge. He passed away in 1961.

Bessie Stone was my Grandmother’s Mother (my great grandmother) – my Grandmother was Myrtle Golledge and she married Thomas Gammage – they left Wales and went to South Africa – they had 3 sons Cyril, Douglas and Glyndwr – I believe Thomas had a brother out there as well but they fell out – I recently found that out

Thank you for this amazing history. Rebecca French is my 1st cousin 6x removed. Her grandparents William French and Sarah Brown are my 6th great grandparents through their daughter Mary who married Thomas Brent. Rebecca’s mother Anne Runnalls is the eldest sister of my 5th great grandmother Deborah Runnalls. I haven’t found you yet to place our relationship but we will be something like 6th-8th cousins.

Thanks. yes it would appear that they are the same, but there is a headstone in the Benoni cemetery, indicating that Bessie and William both may had died and been buried in South Africa. I have tried to attach the picture of the Headstone with but am a bit of a techno retard. If you have a different e-mail address I can sent it to you.
My cousin and his daughter went to Llantrisant a few years ago and I am not sure if it was family or friends of the Golledges / Stones that they met there is you like I can get more information from them.
South Africa does not have a system where you can go into the archives and get all the information of your parents and grand-parents etc like they do in other countries, it is a great pity, because so much history and information is lost.
I would love hearing from you again I find tracing ones ancestors very intriguing.

Welcome to the site. I believe this is the same Bessie Stone. Our Bessie Stone was born on 8 Jan 1878 in Llantrisant, Glamorgan, Wales (possibly in Pontypridd). The only information that I have regarding her passing was that it was in Australia.
